This probably sounds like a ridiculous post, because why would you need to get in the mood for your wedding?! Well, I kind of did. It wasn’t that I wasn’t looking forward to it or really excited, I was, just that it all felt a bit unreal. We have organised the main suppliers and aspects of the day, it’s just décor and the details still to go, and we’ve been doing plenty of planning, but it just still felt like it was a hypothetical wedding somehow.
I think this is because we have both been insanely busy of late (you’ll have noticed things have been a bit quiet on the blog lately because I’ve had no time to write), with a million things going on. There’s the house renovations (which, once the bedroom is done (soon!), will be put on hold until after the wedding), my freelance work which has been ramped up to earn some extra money to pay for this extravaganza, and we’ve also been away or busy nearly every weekend, mainly attending the weddings/hens/stags of friends, and also my little sister. Our own has just seemed a long way off compared to all these other things that were on the horizon, despite it only being 65 days now!
So I needed to get in the mindset and start eating, sleeping and breathing wedding, which I get the impression some people do for as long as 12 months before theirs! Well, I am not one of those people, and in case you aren’t either, here are some tips for getting in the wedding mood.
How To Get In The Wedding Mood
1. Attend A Wedding!
First of all, go to someone else’s! If you can of course, I’m not suggesting turning up uninvited to a stranger’s. Nothing will get you in the wedding mood faster, I promise. Having been to 4 weddings already this year (with 2 more to go as well as ours) we have been loving watching our friends say I Do, and somehow it has been even more special for me knowing we’re about to go through that too. It is also a real life Pinterest with loads of amazing décor ideas to nick! He he! (I am kidding, honest).
2. Pinterest
Yeah yeah, so I know you know this already, but Pinterest really is your best friend when wedding planning. Spend your commute scrolling through wedding pins and I can guarantee you’ll start getting in the mood. You can find some amazing ideas and save them all to private wedding boards (please tell me I wasn’t the only one to have a secret wedding board before I was even engaged?!), so they are great reference points when you’re planning, and even better, you can share them with your suppliers. So instead of trying to describe to your florist the exact type of flowers you really love, just show them. And instead of struggling to communicate to your hairdresser how you want your hair, you can just whip out your Pinterest ‘Wedding hair’ board!
A word of caution though – don’t go too crazy with it – you can’t do everything you see on Pinterest, and in fact, one or two really well done personal touches often have a lot more impact than lots and lots of things. And don’t feel you have to DIY stuff either – sometimes it is quicker and cheaper just to get a professional to do it or buy it ready made, even if it is personalised. Nobody will care, I promise, if they even notice.
3. Get it in Writing (or Engraved!)
Now this might seem like a crazy one, but seeing it all in writing really hit home that in just over 2 months I will be getting married. Yes, I’ve seen the invites, but they don’t count because I made those myself, but it was an offer from Bespoke & Oak to try some of their lovely carved wooden products which finally got me.
They got in touch to ask if I would like to try a couple of things from their amazing wedding range of personalised wooden items, to which of course I said yes. Opening that parcel was the moment it really hit home – we are getting married! Seeing the date of the wedding carved there in oak, our married name on a luggage tag, well, suddenly I was in weddingsville! About to get hitched. In the mood to marry. Boom.
I chose to get a pair of wedding outfit hangers with our names engraved, and the date on. They are beautifully done and I will cherish them forever. You can see Ste’s here, with a tux ready and waiting, but I’m afraid you’re not getting a look at mine – nobody’s seeing that dress until I walk down the aisle (or garden path as it will actually be)!
And even cuter was this pair of honeymoon luggage tags – we will probably only get to use them once or twice, but I am certain they will hang proudly in our bedroom afterwards. It was the first time seeing our new surname in print too, and I loved it.
If we weren’t heading to our honeymoon with Easyjet I’d say sporting these beauties on your suitcase is the fastest way to a free upgrade on your flight too!
Thank you to Bespoke & Oak for these special things which have got me 100% in the wedding mood, and which I will love forever. If you’re getting married (or know someone who is – they have amazing gifts, for bridesmaids and best men too) have a look at their website – they have all sorts of items you can personalise, from as little as place names to as big as your entire table plan! These are personal touches that will last forever, and really don’t cost a fortune. It’s a bonus that they are a lovely family-run business as well, and they don’t just do wedding items, you can get something for almost any occasion, including Father’s Day (if you’re really quick – they do next day delivery!).
So, did you take a while to get in the wedding mood? What made it finally sink in for you? And will you be investing in a little something pretty as an amazing keepsake from your wedding?
These items were kindly sent to me for review by Bespoke & Oak, but the opinions are entirely my own. For more information on my review policy, see my disclosure page.
Very excited for you Anna. I cannot wait. You are my first Blogger Bride! I get to vicariously live thru it with you.
Ha ha, glad to hear it Mary! Plenty of wedding spam coming your way in the next few months! 😂
