The radio silence from me lately about the house project and life in general has not been because there has been nothing to say, but rather because there has been so much to say I’ve not had time to say it!
The biggest part of our house renovation started in mid-April and is now in full swing, complete with half the house boarded off, permanent skip outside, most rooms packed up in boxes and shoved in the nursery (the only sealed off, dust-free room right now), and dust on everything. It is incredibly exciting but also terrifying! I can’t wait to tell you lots more about it, but for now, here’s a picture of our new kitchen window being made (knocking holes in a building that is well over 200 years old is a scary thing, let me tell you!):
And to give you an idea of just how big this job is, here’s the room as it currently looks, stripped back to bare Yorkshire stone and ancient beams. It looks like a lovely old barn, doesn’t it? Hard to imagine a kitchen in here!
To accompany the chaos of the building project, work has also been mad too – so much to finish before maternity leave at the end of May, and so many things on my to-do list. And then of course my freelance work has also taken off in the past couple of weeks. All my carefully planned projects between January and April were all inevitably late and have all arrived at once, leaving me wondering how on earth I will accomplish them, along with several new clients who I am trying to manage alongside the existing commitments! I am grateful I have a month of maternity leave before Pipsqueak is actually due, because I think I will be working on freelance projects for that entire month! Great of course that I have lots of clients, just typical terrible timing.
This past weekend we were away for a few days for an amazing wedding of friends, and it was a perfect break from the chaos of home and work, but this Monday’s stress levels have been quite a bit higher thanks to not having been able to work all weekend (which is a good thing of course). Here’s a pic of me looking really quite pregnant now, but far more relaxed in a field in Oxfordshire over the weekend.
And…to top off this total chaos of an existence, tomorrow we are off on holiday to Santorini for a week! Normally I would have been excited about this for ages, but the truth is, I just haven’t had time! I am hoping I can squeeze in a quick packing session this evening, and I can find some clothes that fit the now quite sizeable baby bump which aren’t totally dust-covered. I am very much hoping that a week of total relaxation by the pool will rejuvenate us for the rest of the building work, and the final few weeks before we become parents, so we can put the house back together before Pipsqueak arrives. I am also hoping to get a chance to catch up on many long overdue blog posts, so hopefully you can expect to hear a little bit more from me over the coming weeks about what exactly we are up to with the kitchen project, the rest of the house, how my pregnancy is going and all about our holiday too I hope.
Thank you for bearing with me in this rather crazy period of my life – and hello to my recent subscribers and thanks for signing up. I promise it isn’t always this quiet around here!
See you when I’m back from my week of sun and sea in Santorini – come and follow me on Instagram if you’d like some pretty picture updates. However I seem to have been shadow-banned over the weekend, so who knows whether you’ll see my posts in your feed or not – you might have to actually check my profile. Flipping Instagram – anyone else feel like setting up a rival platform like it used to be back in the day?! Very sad about it because it’s been a very pretty few days:
